White Oak Lane is a small town in Louisiana. Morgan Chassion, despite her cajun name not used to the cajun way of life (anymore), has inherited a cabin from her father in this small town. Having been fixated on her career as a product manager for a chain of grocery stores in Atlanta until recently, her life has been turned upside down by the death of her father, the loss of her girlfriend, and her job in quick succession. She hopes to get her life in order again before starting over with a job in a city. But thanks to the “Lure of White Oak Lane” everything plays out differently. As soon as her new neighbours – especially the three older ladies Clarice, Betsy, and Ida – realize that she is a single lesbian, their plot-making starts: finally the right person for Jacelyn, owner of “The Lure” (shop) and mother of teenage boy Austin, they hope. Indeed, Jacelyn and Morgan soon connect and their mutual attraction grows but is it enough for a longlasting relationship or will Morgan leave the small town and its relaxed lifestyle behind to follow up on her career?

Robin Alexander, author of the Gloria’s Inn series and nearly 20 lesbian books in total, once again creates a wonderful atmosphere through the humour-infused book and its special characters. Yes, there is a lot of exaggeration and clichĂ©s about living in the South, but: you can’t help laughing reading about droll Clarice, Betsy, and Ida.

A fun read with a predictable happy-end that balances outer and inner motivations well. Characters that are understandable and don’t remain passive or fearful or just plain dumb like in so many other books.

“Never felt this way”

“I’ve never felt like this before. I know it sounds silly, but just holding her hand makes me feel… complete.” (pos. 3790, p. 155)
